Pumpin’ Pal
Quick Start Guide
The Basics of Angled Flanges
- Determine correct flange for each breast, sizes may vary, take your time
- Pay attention to how things feel over how things look
- Don’t use a bra until you have success with each breast
- The plastic flanges (M, L, XL) are applied like your straight flanges
- Comfort and Output is what matters most
- Pay attention to how things feel over how things look
Elastic tissue and Using the Silicone (XXS,XS, Small)
- Begin with pump on the expression mode. Once flanges on, go to stimulation mode
- Roll back the funnel and bring towards the breast without touching the breast
- Get into the groove of the suck/release, suck/release cycles of the pump
- Make the decision to apply and right before it sucks, bring the flange to the breast
- The suction will pull the areola up to the silicone and remove any air gap
Pro Tips:
Before applying, kink the hose of the flange not being used to increase suction strength!
If you are seeing space between the tunnel and your nipple, size down!

How to Apply Pumpin’ Pal Flanges to Your Pump!
Please note: For our soft silicone flanges (sizes 2XS, XS, S) application requires the addition of our included Collar Ring Adapters.

If you have removable flanges:
Insert firmly into the connector with a slight twisting motion.

Rotating to fit:
The Super Shields can be rotated to enhance comfort and give you a personalized custom fit. They can even be rotated a full 180 degrees for moms with long, tubular breasts or nipples that point downward.

If you're not sure what size to use:
Start with the smallest size and experiment from there. The size that is the most comfortable while maximizing your milk output is the size you should use. If you still can't decide, call us, we can help.
Many moms find they can use multiple sizes effectively, and even use a different size on each breast. Some moms will use different sizes at different times of the day depending on how engorged their breasts are at the time.

How to Care For Your Pumpin’ Pal Flanges
- Handwashing is recommended, using warm water and a grease-cutting dish soap that doesn't leave a residue. We recommend our Pumpin’ Pal Foamin’ Flange Wash, or Dawn dish soap (the one with the yellow duck on the bottle)!
- Flanges are dishwasher safe (top-rack only), but be aware that most dishwasher detergents can leave a residue.
- Silicone (2XS,XS,S–only) and hard-poly flanges can be boiled to sterilize.
- After first use, flanges can be steamed in microwavable steam bag (only 2-3 minutes necessary).
- For UV sterilization: Hard-poly flanges ONLY!
- DO NOT use UV sterilization with silicone flanges — silicone may become hard and crack!
Please note: Exposure to heat from stovetop or microwave once water has burned away can result in parts melting and becoming deformed.
